We had not finished saying our goodbyes, we had not even finished dropping roses onto his casket (or the cement box his casket is in). The workers there today were so quick to get her son buried that they literally asked my friend (his mother) to step aside so they could bring in the tractor to dump dirt on his body. I was very disappointed with the lack of respect the workers had for the grieving loved ones today. My friend buried her son today at Ascension Cemetery. To the Director of Ascension Cemetery: Please respond with your plan to restore the markers to lawn-level BEFORE they are completely under the ground. They probably have sunk due to the draught in 2021, but also because the cemetery used far too much fertilizer, which exasperated the problem when the rains came and the grass started growing like crazy, pushing the markers deeper so that MOST are BARELY VISIBLE. But mowing is not going to do anything to the sunken markers. The grass is very thick and needs mowing. The sod looks overgrown and OVER FERTILIZED. WHY did this happen? Was it due to poor management of the grounds? That's what I think. Read more The question is: what will the Archdiocesan Catholic Cemeteries DO about this huge problem? To reset all the lawn-level markers would take a great deal of time and manpower. This is unprecedented in my decades of visiting the cemetery and other Archdiocesan Catholic cemeteries. However, in the recent past, from mid-2020 to the present (mid-October 2021) there is a big problem of the lawn-level markers sinking into the ground like never before.
